Spring is a busy time for the seaside city of Mandurah. Aside from boasting 50 kilometres of pristine coastline popular with local holidaymakers, it’s also home to an Ironman triathlon.
The ‘user-friendly’ half iron-distance course includes a point-to-point swim through the mansion-flanked local canals as well as scenic run and bike legs though Mandurah localities.
The bike leg takes athletes over the historical Old Mandurah Bridge and up through the suburbs. The majority of the race takes place on closed roads, but there will be some vehicle traffic and course crossings in places.
The highlight of the event is the run leg. It traverses some of Mandurah’s best seaside scenery with a run out to Halls Head and the finishing lap takes athletes to the foreshore of beautiful Mandjar Bay. Here competitors will be able to score a post-race massage. Dolphins are spotted in Mandjar Bay on a daily basis, so be sure to keep your eyes on the ocean.
