2009 ITU World Champion Emma Moffatt chats about all things tri and her new sponsorship deal.

What have you been up to since winning the ITU World Championship title?

EM: I had six weeks break. I had a fantastic adventure travelling through Laos and Thailand. It was great to get away somewhere new and take my mind off competition. I also went home to Woolgoolga for a quiet escape, and down to Melbourne for the Cox Plate, which was great fun. I finished my break in Noosa for the triathlon festival!

Has much changed since you became world champ?

EM: No, not really. I still feel the same but one difference is that I have been to lots of awards functions. That’s given me the excuse to buy new outfits and dressing up!

What are the benefits of being sponsored by Orbea and Orca?

EM: It’s great that two great sports brands can combine forces when it comes to sponsoring athletes. For me, having tri wetsuits, apparel and my bike organised through one partnership makes things more simple and allows me to focus on my training and racing. Plus both their products are great so I get a performance advantage and comfort when I’m training and racing.

What Orca and Orbea gear can you not live without?

EM: The Alpha wetsuit is awesome – it’s the most flexible wetsuit I’ve ever used. Plus, for a warm weather girl there are so many cold races where you need a good wetsuit, without one I’d freeze.

What are some of your favourite things to do outside of triathlon?

EM: I love shopping, going to the beach, playing with my nieces and nephew, reading books and did I mention shopping?

Have you got any training tips you can share?

EM: I like my training to be challenging, consistent and enjoyable. I usually swim, bike, and run most days of the week, but I only have one session on Sundays! And this may sound simple, but I always drink lots of water.
