Close race expected at KMD Challenge Copenhagen

The second edition of the KMD Challenge Copenhagen - the iron distance race in the heart of the beautiful Danish capital Copenhagen - will see a bunch of raw triathlon talent battle it out for the win on the men's side on 14 August 2011.

The inaugural winner from last year, Aussie Tim Berkel, will try to defend his title. Both last year's runner up, Keegan Williams from New Zealand (who latest impressed at Challenge Roth with a 3rd place finish) and Dane and 3rd place finisher Jens Grønbæk will also be on the start line.

Other contenders are the ever podium present Dane, Martin Jensen, who had to withdraw from last year's race after two flats and the strong Brit, Stephen Bayliss,  a late entry.

On the women's side Australian iron-woman legend Rebekah Keat will look to defend her title from last year. One of the greatest at long distance racing is Joanna Lawn from New Zealand and she will be eager to add another iron distance win to her impressive list of long distance results. A dark horse is Dane Karina Ottosen who undoubtedly will be cheered on by the home crowd.

The biggest stars of KMD Challenge Copenhagen however will be the 1,900 age groupers who in the last couple of years has created a triathlon boom in Denmark. Each have a dream and a personal motivation on race day when a beautiful journey reaches its climax. Almost 2,000 athletes and 100 relay teams - 2,300 athletes in all - will participate on August 14.

This makes KMD Challenge Copenhagen the second largest iron-distance race in the Challenge Family next after the legendary Challenge Roth - and KMD Challenge Copenhagen can already measure itself with legendary iron-distance events such as Ironman Frankfurt, Austria and Switzerland in terms of size and media impact.
