With over 5000 eager athletes from the corporate sector in Victoria, the Melbourne-leg of the Nissan/BRW National Series 2011 was officially launched.

The southern hemisphere’s largest triathlon, the Nissan/BRW Corporate Triathlon National Series 2011 was held today at Elwood Beach.

5,300 corporate business men and women flocked to Elwood Beach as they took part in the Series’ 24th year at the iconic event which each year stamps itself as a must-do on the corporate calendar.

Highlights of the day include Channel 7’s Mark Baretta and accomplished triathlete and Seven actor, Daniel MacPherson’s team falling just short of taking line honours.

The weekend Sunrise Family were also out in force, filming segments for the half-hour showcase of the event to air on 7TWO during May, 2011.

The Melbourne event launched the 2011 Series today which is also staged in Adelaide (27 February), Perth (13 March), Sydney (April 3) and Gold Coast (May 7) attracting over 16,000 competitors.

Some of Australia’s leading companies will took part in the event, with teams of three, where each member completed the 400m beach sand run, 10km cycle and 4km run. Due to the recent rainfall, the EPA advised on Friday that the water quality was rated poor, thus seeing the event turn into a duathlon.
