Her first time appearance in the toughest race on the planet saw Aussie Mirinda Carfrae challenge three-time World Ironman Champ, Chrissie Wellington. Carfrae took on Kona and came through with a second-place finish. She’s back in Aus to tell us what she’s all about.

Toughest opponent: The clock… hahaha

Best thing about being a triathlete: Living the endless summer.

Worst thing about being a triathlete: Travelling with the bike.

Most extreme training day? Six hour ride in the Rocky Mountains with quality company followed by a hard run off the bike. Then, I did a swim session in the evening to finish the day.  

Best advice you have ever been given by parents/or coach? Be kind to your body.

Ideal holiday destination: Anywhere there is sunshine, beach and friends!

Favourite indulgence: Ice cream over a warm choc chip cookie.

Dream job outside triathlon: Pro Surfer 

Craziest thing you ve splurged money on: I’m saving up to buy a home. I haven’t splurged on anything crazy, I don’t think.

What other sports do you follow: Whatever is on.

Actual car? In Australia, I have a 2000 Honda Civic. In the US, I drive a 2008 Subaru Impreza wagon.

Dream car? Audi TT

If you had a racehorse, you d call it: Hiho Silver

Any pre-race routines or superstitions? I have a pocket full of lucky charms in my bag that go to every race with me. 

Hopes for 2009: Become a stronger cyclist as well as improving my swim and run legs. Go one better in Kona.
