She qualified at the top of her age group for the World Champs on the Gold Coast. She didn’t disappoint, overcoming a kick in the face during the swim to take second place. We catch up with Rach to find out what she’s all about.

Best ever race: 2008 World Triathlon Championships in Vancouver – second place in my age group (20-to-24).

Preferred distance: Olympic distance

Toughest opponent: Myself and the water.

Most famous Facebook friend: My mum!

How did you get into triathlon: RPM instructor at the gym told me to give it a go.

Best thing about being a triathlete: being a cheap drunk.

Worst thing about being a triathlete: eating breakfast in the car everyday between training and work.

Most extreme training day: using my first long distance tri as training in South Korea 3km ocean swim/80km ride to 1330 metres altitude/20km run in the cold.

Best advice: “there’s no training like racing” – Jason Crowther.

Ideal holiday destination: Greek Islands

Favourite indulgence: Coffee, thick shake and pancakes.

Dream job outside triathlon: Trainer on The Biggest Loser.

Craziest thing you’ve splurged money on: Using my 17th birthday money to get my tongue pierced.
