By all accounts, Challenge Bahrain (20 November 2015) is one of the slickest productions on the international triathlon circuit and offers a great chance to race in an exotic destination.
Challenge fired a warning shot across the bow of Ironman last year when it announced it would stage a half-iron distance event in Bahrain with a US$100,000 winner’s cheque up for grabs in both the men’s and women’s races.
It certainly got the attention of professionals across the globe with the cream of international triathlon assembling in the UAE principality for a share of what is the richest half-iron-distance prize pool.
Backed by the Crown prince of Bahrain, the organisers have gone one better this year and plan to stage a night event. Initial reports suggested the swim would take place at sunset, although the Challenge website currently lists the pro men’s start time as 3:00pm.
